Horses, Ponies and Traps visit the park at Lower Parkstone

On Saturday 25th July, Parkstone Park at Ashley Cross became a stopping point for a group of travellers who were making their way to Bournemouth beach, along with their horses, ponies and traditional horse-drawn traps.

I think this is at least an annual event, always taking place during good weather. Today was no exception – very warm, and the park was a convenient place to allow the animals and travellers to rest and drink before continuing their journey. It was certainly an unusual sight, with the beautiful horses grazing, their traps dotted around the park. A few other people stopped to watch and take photographs too.

Whether you view this as a glimpse of a traditional way of travelling or as an unwelcome interruption in a public park, it was a great subject for photography.

A big “thank you” to the travellers for chatting to me and allowing me to take photos… here and at the beach.
