The Wildlife, Trees and Flowers of Poole Park

Mar 23, 2026

Poole Park is home to a rich variety of wildlife that brings this urban green space to life.

Mallards, swans. geese, moorhens, tufted ducks, and a beautiful Mandarin duck glide across the freshwater lake, while pigeons, seagulls, cormorants, herons, and the occasional collared dove can be seen and heard throughout the Park.

Poole Park is framed by a diverse collection of trees, including striking swamp cypresses (changing colour in autumn), ancient oaks, Corsican pines, and the distinctive ginkgo biloba, and a beautiful magnolia. Additionally, there are lime, hornbeam, horse chestnut, maple, and giant redwoods, and each tree adds its own character and seasonal beauty.

From springtime onwards, daffodils and myriad roses bloom in the Remembrance Garden, adding colour and making Poole Park a wonderfully diverse place for both visitors and wildlife alike.

Whenever you visit, there is always plenty to see, no matter the time of year.
