Sunflower field Dorset 2017 – sunrise

This Dorset sunflower field was certainly a beautiful sight, with the heavy, yellow heads of the sunflowers waking up to the early morning sunshine.

Fields of sunflowers (Helianthus) are something I’ve been wanting to take photos of for a long time, and this morning I was rewarded. I took a few more photos of sunflowers, but this was the one that really caught my eye.

Ophrys sphegodes is also the first orchid to flower each year, heralding the start of the ‘orchid season.’ This year, I also found a woodcock orchid x Fly orchid hybrid, growing on a steep, Dorset hillside.

Therfield Heath is renowned for its abundant colony of pasqueflowers and people travel from far and wide (like I did!) to see this annual Easter-tide spectacle. This really is the best place for ‘pasqueflower action’ in the UK!
